THE SERVICE OFFICER
In addition to the duties defined in the General Bylaws, Service Officer Handbook and Branch Manual, the Service Officer investigates Poppy Fund Applications and recommends grant for: Food, Clothing, shelter and the necessities of life. Works with Branch Poppy Chair;
The Branch Service Officer is a referral agent only to the Command Service Officer for disability claims. However, the Branch Service Officer may assist applicants with paperwork and claim forms that have been registered by Veterans Affairs Canada. A green LEGION CLAIM APPLICATION FORM (with proper identification) must be signed and dated by the requesting applicant before representation can be affected;
Maintains, administers and allocates special aids to daily living as recorded on the Branch Poppy Chair and Service inventories;
Works with the Branch Poppy Chair to assist Veterans and their authorized dependants;
Service Officers complete an enhanced security check, and are regularly trained and update on security processes and regulations and deemed eligible to access very sensitive information.
